President Barzani meets top officials in the EU

The President of the Kurdistan Region Masoud Barzani will pay a visit to the capital of the European Union, Brussels. Mr. Barzani will meet Javier Solana, the EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) and other top EU officials.
Kurdish President Barzani concludes his European tour in Brussels

Ararat News –Publishing (ANP) - Roni ALASOR - 16/3/2009 / Brussels – The President of the Kurdistan Region Masoud Barzani will pay a visit to the capital of the European Union, Brussels. Mr. Barzani will arrive on Wednesday 18th of March and is due to meet Javier Solana, the EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP). The visit of Kurdish President to Brussels will also include meetings with other top EU officials.

Sources in the European Parliament, the European Council and  the Kurdistan Region's Mission to the EU in Brussels have confirmed the meeting. According the EU politicians and Kurdish diplomats, the Kurdish President’s visit to Brussels and his European tour are part of the Kurdistan’s strategy of encouraging international support for Iraq’s democratic political process. But also to explain the investment possibilities and to encourage European investments to Kurdistan Region as a secure gate to all Iraq.

This official visit to Brussels follows President Barzani's visit to the United Kingdom, Germany and Rome where he met head of states and senior officials.

Rome-Berlin-London-Brussels

Earlier in this month, President Barzani visited Rome where he met Italian Prime Minister Mr. Silvio Berlusconi and His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI. Other important European visit of Mr. Barzani was in Berlin where he held meetings with Chancellor Angela Merkel, the German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier, and other German senior officials.

Last week President Barzani held several meetings with Bristish officials, among them was HRH the Duke of York, Foreign Secretary David Miliband, Justice Secretary Jack Straw, Defence Secretary John Hutton, and Shadow Foreign Secretary William Hague. President Barzani has also delivered a significant speech at the Chatham House in London.

In London, Mr. Barzani underlined that “Kurdistan will be strong if it is part of a peaceful, federal and democratic Iraq; and Iraq will be strong if Kurdistan stays strong and remains part of a Federal Iraq.”
