EU Leaders agreed on agenda
News –Publishing (ANP) – Roni Alasor, Brussels – 21 / 6 / 2009 – After two days summit in Brussels, in 18 and 19 of Jun, the European leaders agreed to gave new guaranties to Ireland on Lisbon-Treaty and they unanimously nominated the European Commission`s President Jose Manuel Barroso for a next 5 years term. The leaders from 27 member countries were also agree to create a financial regulatory body as a solution for the financial crises. But the EU-leaders left the global warning once agin to the “next autumn” so long without to mention a concrete date.
Iran and Aung San Suu
The European leader gave also fully support to the democratically opposition in Iran where they ask to the Mollahs-mens regime to respect the democracy and freedom. The house arrested Burmese opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi got also full support to be released.
Irish-Lisbon conflict solved ?
After that the EU leaders decelerated a agreement over new guaranties to Irish people, the Ireland's Prime Minister Brian Cowen announced Irish voters would have a second chance to weigh in on the EU's Lisbon reform treaty in next October. The Irish people rejected the EU pact in a referendum last year. EU leaders do believe that Ireland got enough legally-binding assurances that Lisbon would not affect Irish policies on military neutrality, taxes and abortion.
Financial cries
The EU leaders backed a framework for enhanced oversight of the financial sector. The draft summit conclusions say the European Council - the assembly of EU leaders - "stresses that decisions taken by the European Supervisory Authorities should not impinge in any way on the fiscal responsibilities of member states". A new European Systemic Risk Board will not automatically be chaired by the head of the European Central Bank (ECB). The ECB will still elect the chair, but the new body will not be controlled by the 16-nation euro zone. The board's job will be to spot any threats to financial stability across the EU.
EC- President Barroso re-elected but need to be approved
On Thursday, the leaders unanimously nominated Jose Manuel Barroso for a second term as EU Commission president. But he can have difficulty from Socialist Group, the Green-left and the liberals if his nomination will be bring it to the European Parliament to be approved by the EP n middle of July.
