Kurdish Intelligent Chief : Experience in Kurdistan to be indication for Iraq how to progress
Ararat News-Publishing (ANP) – Brussels, Fiona Lorin, Roni Alasor - 1 February 2010 - The future and the rebirth of Iraq were discussed on a two days Middle East conference in the French Senate in Paris last week. Politicians and key experts from Iraq, Iran, Palestine, Israel, as well as French and EU officials participated in the two-day discussions organized by foundation Robert Schuman.
The Kurdish Regional Government (KRG) was represented by Masrour Barzani, Director of Kurdistan Region’s Security Protection Agency.
Masrour Barzani spoke about the difficult historical burden which Iraq has from its despotic past. But Mr. Barzani made it clear that the democratic future of Iraq will be secured from now on by the federal principles laid out in the Iraqi Constitution: “It binds us together as different communities, secure in our difference but united in common goals of progress and justice”, said Masrour Barzani in his speech.
Mr. Barzani explained the security situation in Iraq and gave the Kurdish region as example for “the safest and the most secure part of Iraq which in turn has helped the economy of the region to flourish”. Mr.Barzani added that it was mainly possible because of the dominant culture of tolerance and religious coexistence in the Kurdistan region. “The whole Kurdish experience and the national reconciliation practiced in Kurdistan could be a clear indication of how Iraq could move forward”, concluded Masrour Barzani.
Among the other speakers invited to the conference were Catherine Ashton, the new EU High Representative on Foreign Affairs, Bernard Kouchner, France’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Javier Solana, the former European Union High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy.
