Ararat News –Publishing (ANP) – Fiona Lorin (Paris) and Robin Alan (Brussels) – 13 / 3 / 2010 -The arrest of the two former Kurdish MPs Mr. Remzi Kartal and Mr. Zubeyir Aydar is facing reactions also in European Parliament. GUE/NGL Political Group is planning now to bring the debate in EP. They will ask for fact and juridical reasons of mass arrest of Kurdish politicians and journalists.

The Belgian lawyers of Kurdish MPs, Georges-Henri Beauthier and Selma Benkhelifa do believe that all operation in EU was done after whish from the Turkish authority and Ankara was informed and cooperated in all process both before and during actions. The Kurds are reacting strongly against what they call “criminalization of Kurds and Turkish operation in European soul”.

In recent weeks the Italian, French and Belgian authorities have carried out a mass arrest of Kurdish activists, former Kurdish MPs and journalists. The Kurdish broadcaster Roj TV and EU Representation office of newly founded Kurdish legal political party in Turkey, the Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) was one of the targeted places as well as the Kurdistan National Congress (KNK) head quarter.

Now, the leftist GUE/NGL Political Group in the European Parliament (EP) and the Belgian Green MEP Bart Staes are reacting strongly against arrest of Kurdish MEPs, journalist and politicians in Europe and they are planning to bring a debate in EU Parliament to discuss the destructive activities of European governments on the Kurdish question.

In a press conference held in the European Parliament in Strasbourg, GUE/NGL MEP Jürgen Klute from Germany expressed his outrage at recent acts of repression committed by EU governments against Kurdish journalists and political activists .

"European governments are criminalizing all Kurdish political organizations, as well as the Kurdish community living in their own countries. While in Turkey, there is a strong public opinion in favor of a peaceful approach to the Kurdish question, European governments don't even note the opportunities that they are failing to take. The EU should take a positive, mediating role in the conflict but backward steps are all that are coming from governments" Klute said.
