US behind anti-PKK operations in EU   /  Ararat News –Publishing (ANP) – Brussels – 22 / 3 / 2010 - US diplomat Shari Villarosa told the media that US was behind anti-PKK operations in Europe during last weeks. Recently, the Italian, French and Belgian authorities have carried out a mass arrest of Kurdish activists, former Kurdish MPs and journalists. Now USA confirmed that the American authorities were behind these operations to help “its important friend” in Middle-East to “stabilize” the region for peace. During official visit in Ankara, Shari Villarosa, deputy coordinator for regional affairs in the State Department’s Counterterrorism Office, acknowledged that USA strongly urged Europeans to take action against PKK. “We encouraged more cooperation between Turkish and European legal officials, prosecutors and law enforcement people”.

Villarosa also declared: “We want to put the PKK out of business”.The recent police operation against the Kurdish communities in Italy, France and Belgium resulted in the arrest of many tens of Kurdish activists. In Belgium the Kurdish broadcaster Roj TV and EU Representation office of newly founded Kurdish legal political party in Turkey, the Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) was one of the targeted places as well as the Kurdistan National Congress (KNK) head quarter. While talking to the media in Turkey, Shari Villarosa further noted that US officials have regular meetings with their European counterparts on global terror threats and gave assurances that the PKK has always been on the agenda of those discussions. “I have regular twice-a-year talks with the EU. The last one was in the US in November. I will go to Brussels in April. The PKK was part of our discussions as well,” she remarked. But Villarosa also pointed out that Turkey should face the Kurdish issue and find solution to the Kurdish demands: “If grievances were addressed, there should be less reason to resort to violence and this should diminish violence”, said Villarosa.
